Job Description
The Engineer, Electrical is responsible for the integrity and reliability of the refinery electrical systems. Participates in the development and implementation of the electrical reliability and asset care strategies. Provides technical support to refinery operations & maintenance teams.
Core Responsibilities
• Establish and maintain risk based maintenance and inspection plans.
• Maintain and prioritise reliability worklists. Gain key stakeholder support for established priorities.
• Perform daily unit / critical equipment monitoring. Record deviations and events, identify and implement appropriate corrective and preventative actions.
• Member of the team that is responsible for ensuring equipment performance and condition is evaluated and addressed as required, to help meet refinery operation plan.
• Contribute to the development of Long Range Plans (LRP), expense and capital budgets, ensuring key obsolescence, safety and reliability investment is forecast.
• Drive ownership of assets within operations and maintenance technicians.
• Support the development of company standards, best practices and asset integrity and reliability behaviours across the refinery.
• Assists in the development of turnaround (TA) scope, consistent with long term strategies, to ensure run length targets can be met and sustained.
• Troubleshoot problems and engage other technical resources as needed to support operations and maintenance technicians.
• Provide information, competency assessment, training development and functional guidance to central engineering, project groups, specialists and supervisors.
• Performs discipline engineering review of management of change documents.
• Provide engineering design, construction support and start-up assistance for all assigned projects.
• Provision of engineering calculations, design and specification of equipment.
• Custodian of documentation systems and associated evergreen processes for the asset base across the Refinery.
Education Requirements/Key Skills
• Expert knowledge of Electrical systems through design and field installation experience
• Plant reliability, inspection, engineering and maintenance experience.
• Degree qualified Electrical Engineer or equivalent with significant experience in refining or a similar process industry.
• Member of a relevant professional engineering institute (e.g. IET)
• Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer or someone who has demonstrable CPD with a strong will to achieve CEng
• Aware of hazardous area classification and protection concepts used in Electrical equipment.
• Knowledge of HV electrical safety, inspection and maintenance
• Knowledge of electrical reliability, engineering and maintenance procedures, processes and activities.
• Demonstrated ability to achieve goals and objectives.
• Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively.
• Balances short-term and long-term tasks with the ability to manage conflicting priorities.
• Demonstrated strong problem solving skills.

The Humber Refinery is playing its part of the UK’s decarbonisation efforts.
As a part of the UK Government’s net zero ambition, the Humber Refinery is on a journey to become the Refinery of the Future. With proposed plans for a number of projects including to implement a first-of-a-kind FCC carbon capture project, the Humber Refinery is part of Humber Zero, a world-scale concept to reduce UK industry carbon emissions, saving up to 8 million tonnes of CO2 by 2030 from the Immingham industrial area.
On top of this, the Humber Refinery is the UK’s only refiner producing Sustainable Aviation Fuel at scale. It is also the only European facility producing battery anode coke, which forms a critical component for lithium-ion batteries used in electrical vehicles and in consumer electronics. Our current production of battery anode coke is equivalent to placing 1.3 million EVs on the road every year, and we are developing multiple projects to expand this capability.
