Job Description
The Operations Training & Permit to Work (PTW) Coordinator is responsible for developing, delivering and coordinating operator training while executing and assuring the Permit to Work system within the assigned operational area.
The role acts as a technical and procedural expert for training, safe work control, and regulatory compliance, ensuring that operator competence, maintenance execution, and work authorisation processes support safe, reliable, and efficient refinery operations.
This position combines hands-on PTW coordination with strategic and practical training leadership, driving safety culture, compliance, and operational excellence.
Core Responsibilities
• Act as the area focal point and subject matter expert for operator training.
• Define, develop and maintain area training strategies and plans aligned with refinery strategy and regulatory requirements.
• Design, develop and deliver area operator training, including inductions and mandatory refresher training (e.g. PTW, gas testing, rail-related roles).
• Coordinate and track training delivery, competency assessments and revalidation.
• Develop and maintain competency assessment tools and training metrics to demonstrate compliance and capability.
• Improve safety performance, reliability and uptime through increased operator knowledge and skill.
• Contribute to the development, update and standardisation of area procedures used for training.
• Execute and coordinate the Permit to Work system for the assigned area.
• Support Field Leaders in day-to-day unit operations through effective planning and control of maintenance and project work.
• Ensure all permitted work is properly prepared, authorised, communicated and executed in line with site procedures.
• Ensure timely preparation of area equipment to meet maintenance schedules and project requirements.
• Coordinate communication between Operations, Maintenance, Projects and Contractors.

Education Requirements/Key Skills
• High level of unit and process knowledge (Operator 9.5 level or equivalent).
• Strong understanding of Permit to Work systems and risk assessment.
• Proven experience coordinating maintenance or project work in an operational environment.
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
• Ability to influence, engage and gain respect across diverse groups.
• SAP knowledge and understanding of maintenance scheduling.
