Job Description
The Specialist, High Voltage leads and coordinates the safe and reliable operation and maintenance of the electrical distribution network, specialist electrical equipment and hazardous area electrical equipment inspection
Core Responsibilities
• Achieve and maintain 33kV full distribution SAP status.
• Be fully conversant with HV and LV Electrical Safety Rules.
• Responsible for managing and co-ordinating maintenance and repair of the main distribution system, overhead lines, switchgear, transformers, cables and specialist equipment such as UPS, Emergency Generators, HV motors and VSDs.
• Prepare, issue and cancel switching plans, permits and safety certificates.
• Review and update electrical protection schemes in support of planned or unplanned maintenance.
• Own and maintain electrical master documents including Main Distribution SLDs.
• Liaise with external stakeholders including DNO and ICHP.
• Manage, coordinate and analyse results of condition monitoring of the main distribution system.
• Maintain and control the Electrical Automation system for the main distribution network.
• Manage and maintain protection systems.
• Development of maintenance plans and Turnaround work scope for the main distribution and specialist equipment.
• Maintain and develop the LV and HV Safety Rules
• Provide classroom and on the job training on HV & LV Systems.
• Carry out and document investigations into failures of the main distribution system and specialist equipment.
• Develops equipment commissioning plans and electrical QC processes.
• Reacts to emergencies including power outages both in and out of hours.
• Works closely with Electrical Engineers and Business Teams to prioritise reliability improvements and capital project needs.
• Contribute to the Long-Range Sustainability programme for equipment replacement.
• Maintains spare parts / BOMs.
• Contributes to electrical craft training profile development.
• Manages risk based DSEAR inspection system and repair process.
• Prepare for and participate in regulatory inspections, local internal and corporate audits within discipline.
Education Requirements/Key Skills
• Extensive knowledge of HV Safe Systems of Work
• Knowledge of relevant UK electrical legislation and standards including BS7671 and IEC 60079.
• Knowledge of HV & LV maintenance practises including HSG230.
• Detailed knowledge of HV equipment.
• Ability to operate and maintain a variety of HV equipment.
• Previously held SAP status at or above 11kV and working towards 33kV.
• Ability to develop and execute commissioning plans for new equipment.
• Ability to develop and execute network switching plans.
• Ability to define and implement electrical protection schemes. Familiarity with modelling software and network studies.
• Awareness of Arc Flash risk and protection measures.
• CompEx 12 / 14 desirable. Previously held CompEx1-5 or familiar with requirements.
• C&G 2382 – Requirements for Electrical Installations (latest Wiring Regulations Edition).
• Minimum HNC in Electrical Engineering.
• Membership of a relevant PEI desirable with a commitment towards professional development.

It is also the only European facility producing battery anode coke, which forms a critical component for lithium-ion batteries used in electrical vehicles and in consumer electronics. Our current production of battery anode coke is equivalent to placing 1.3 million EVs on the road every year, and we are developing multiple projects to expand this capability.
